Star Wars fans rejoice! The Rogue One trailer is finally upon us and the hype train is in full motion. The trailer didn't show us a whole lot, but that's exactly what I'd hoped for, a nice tease of what's to come. Like with any big franchise, fans are always speculating, hoping and dreaming of what we will see. The Force Awakens went to the point of almost trying too hard to please fans with a bombardment of Easter Eggs (which I loved! Some people just like to hate). So, let's take a look at six things we could see in the epic prequel! But first, check out the new trailer below.
1. Return Of Boba Fett
This movie is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, so it's a period the fans have been dreaming of seeing! We could see a very angry adolescent Boba Fett out for some vengeance against the Jedi, who in his eyes are the enemy.
As you well know, Boba Fett is one of Star Wars's most beloved characters, despite such little screen time and a very poor death (or so we think). It's a dream come true for fans to see the return of the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter.
The main question, though, is in regard to what context we will see Boba and how much screen time he will get. I wouldn't like to see too much Boba as I think a solo movie would be the perfect setting to see him in his prime, going around different planets and getting up to all sorts of mischief.
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the greatest Jedi we've seen on the big screen and even though we've seen plenty of him already, fans are crazy for some more! Seeing as the plot involves stealing the Death Star plans, I'm unsure about whether or not they would send Obi-Wan on this secret mission, considering he is quite recognizable. He will probably be at the Rebel headquarters offering a helping hand there! There's also the strong possibility that he could be back on Tatooine waiting for young Luke Skywalker to grow up, who knows!
The next question is: if he were in the movie, who would play him? Ewan McGregor would be too old and finding a third actor to play him would be difficult, but it seems like the most plausible solution. Who would you guys like? Taron Egerton or maybe Dylan O'Brien are candidates I'd love to see!
3. The Rise Of The Stormtroopers
One of the things I've been most fascinated by in the Star Wars universe is the transition from Clonetroopers to Stormtroopers on the big screen. I'm so excited to see how this plays out in the Galactic Court, seeing sides from every inch of the galaxy.
I loved how we saw a personal backstory to Finn in The Force Awakens to show that there are real human beings underneath those masks. That's another element I'd like to see tackled in Rogue One. I'd like to see the families of the troopers, why they're signing up and if all of them are loyal this early in the Stormtrooper regime. What do you think guys, do you want to see a human side to the Stormtroopers? Or would that make you feel bad when they die in battle? It's a tough balance!
4. Star Wars Going Espionage
Star Wars is a major franchise, probably the biggest in the world. The next challenge for them will be making sure the films aren't too similar. They're going to have to go down the same road Marvel has taken. Superhero movies have developed tons of sub-genres lately. The Winter Soldier is a political thriller, Ant-Man is a heist film and Guardians of The Galaxy is a "space soap opera." That's why it would be a very strong move for Star Wars to take on a sub-genre and the one for Rogue One looks likely to include a lot of espionage.
We know they will have to steal the Death Star plans, so they're going to need a great deal of stealth to pull off the job. Felicity Jones's character looks like she's going full Agent 47, stealing an Empire outfit. This was probably my favorite shot from the trailer and I can't wait to see how this plays out! What other sub-genres would you like to see Star Wars explore?
You didn't think I'd leave out one of cinema's greatest ever villains, did you? Darth Vader will be making his timely return to the galaxy when Rogue One drops in December. We will have a very angry Anakin Skywalker with little remorse. I think he will be a shadow of the man he was in the prequels, although maybe not as evil as Revenge of the Sith's child-killing monstrosity.
The question everybody has is, how much Vader will we see? I don't think he will be the main villain in this story, but I do think we will see him. I think an undercover Jyn Erso will walk down a corridor and pass the Sith master and possibly have an exchange! That's what I'd do anyway, it would make for an iconic, chilling scene. What do you think? Will we see Vader properly, for the first time since Return of the Jedi.
6. A New Lightsaber!
Let's be honest, the coolest thing about Star Wars is the lightsabers. When the first movie came out, people came for the lightsabers and stayed for the characters and story.
Over the years we've seen some cool lightsabers from some colorful characters. Darth Maul surprised everybody back in '99 with his awesome double sided, red weapon. Kylo Ren split opinions last year when we saw his saber for the first time and the internet had war about how functional it looked, and how dangerous it was to Kylo himself. Either way, I think it's badass. The comics and TV shows are filled with lots of weird and funky lightsabers just waiting to make it to the big screen. Whose lightsaber would you like to see in Rogue One? I'd personally love the one below belonging to Pre Vizsla!
So, there you have it guys! They're the six main things I'd love to see in Rogue One. What's on your wish list for this movie? It comes out December this year and the hype is well and truly building.
