Marvel's television series are growing in number! The latest addition is the announcement of a new Cloak and Dagger series, following the adventures of two teenage superhero runaways. Variety reports:

The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

Over in the comics, Cloak and Dagger are two prominent street-level superheroes. They've traditionally been associated with Spider-Man - even appearing in recent issues of Amazing Spider-Man - although they enjoyed a (very) brief stint as members of the X-Men. When Marvel reached their Spider-Man agreement with Sony, a lot of fans speculated that Cloak and Dagger would soon receive the Marvel Cinematic Universe treatment.

The two runaways met on the streets of New York, when Tyrone (Cloak) briefly considered stealing Tandy's purse. When Tandy was foolish enough to accept an offer of shelter from some of Silvermane's hoodlums, the duo wound up undergoing chemical experimentation. The result, of course, was that they gained super-powers! It's quite possible this origin will be played straight on the small screen, although the hunt is currently on for a writer, so we'll have to wait and see.

Hardcore Marvel fans will probably be excited at one detail in this announcement. Cloak's powers are linked to the Darkforce, the power behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s villain Blackout. The Darkforce also played a key role in Agent Carter Season 2, so it's nice to see some continuity! More curiously, though, fans had been expecting Cloak and Dagger to be a Netflix series - the potential is there for something quite dark. That said, it looks as though Marvel are planning to focus on the romantic side of things.

Marvel's TV series are going from strength to strength, and now we know of the tenth exciting project!
