Now, I was going to write an article on my Top 10 Spider-Men, but since we are one month away (HYPE) for [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409), I might as well do this. Captain America: Civil War is raising the steaks like never before: putting friend against friend and family against family in an all out war. Why are they fighting? Well because of the Sokovia Accords. The Sokovia Accords is the law that says every super being must register under the government. Tony Stark supports it, Steve Rogers disapproves. BOOM! Civil War. The heroes of the MCU are forced to take a side. Now my good friend JLOTHEGREAT Gaming (weird name, right? Lol jk JLO) has already written a post on the odds of other people dying (https://moviepilot.com/posts/3858216 - Who Can We See Dying in Captain America: Civil War and Why?) but here I'm just going to talk about the main two people in this movie: Captain America and Iron Man. I will first talk about why Cap may die, then Iron Man. CAUTION: Possible Spoiler Warning proceed at your own risk.
1. Captain America
Now if you have ever read the Civil War comic, you know Cap "dies" in the end. It is very possible Cap will be the one to die. Now let's look at the evidence:
a. The story line
as I stated before, Cap did die in the comics. This can be both a reason why he will die and why he won't. For example, the movie could stay somewhat faithful to the comics, with especially that element with Cap dying. On the other hand, Marvel has gone off course with their movies staying faithful to the comics, like Age of Ultron, Demons in a Bottle, so on and so on. But, according to HitFix, the movie starts with a funeral scene and ends with a funeral scene. This "source" as they claimed, also gave them the info for Avengers: Age of Ultron. So yes, you can believe this source, but we do also know that they did go back for Civil War re-shoots. What could this mean? Well, it could mean that they changed the ending maybe, or shoot the death of another character. Hm....
b. Evidence from the trailer
Now these next couple of shots I found within the Civil War final trailers. Now, I'm just going to give another SPOILER WARNING, just for all of you who didn't see the top warning.
Now in the trailer, there was a lot of conversation from this shot below. The scene is where Tony Stark is speaking to Natasha. The confusing part is when Natasha says "I'm not the only one who needs to watch their back" after Tony says "They're coming for you." Now, what does this translate to? I believe that when Tony says "They're coming for you," he probably means the accords. And why is Natasha so angry at him? Because of him Steve is dead. Tony is trying to be helpful, but Natasha is pushing him away. The second evidence comes from this next shot:
Tony is obviously looked upset as he looks at the cells. But why would he be upset? Well, first things first, it may be because he has to lock up his friends in here and he really doesn't want to. But the other reason: He's upset because Steve's dead. Maybe he was on his way to this jail cell and he was shot down? Who knows but these two shots seem to add more fuel to the fire.
2. Iron Man
Now the next person, of course is Iron Man. Now a lot of people don't believe Iron Man will die. It didn't happen in the comics, he's the face of the MCU. Why would they kill him off? (warning: these next points will be summed up very quickly because there are a lot of points with small explanations)
a. For the Twist
Killing off Iron Man would be a huge twist that regular movie goers would not expect. It would even surprise some comic book fans too.
b. A New Era
By killing off Iron Man, it represents a new start to the MCU. It gets rid of the hero who started it all. It ushers in the possibility of new heroes. It would be a nice send off from the original Avengers and setting up a new line of Avengers
c. Reverse Psychology
The next point has to do with the marketing of this movie. Now if you guys remember, when it came to Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon really made it seem like Hawkeye was going to die. At one point, Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, tried to spoil Avengers: AoU by saying something along these lines: "Well there is a big thing that happens to the.. the Hawkman?" and before he could finish... the Marvel snipers came. Just take a look at the pic from the interview (sorry the video was taken down).
but anyways, there has been a lot of talk about Cap dying, like during an interview, Frank Grillo said "I would love to kill Captain America" but the directors were quick to say, "We may or may not have filmed that scene already." The directors are really trying to push at hinting the fact that Cap will die, just like Whedon. And as we know from AoU, Quicksilver was the one who died. So what if it was completely changed and Iron Man died? hmm....
d. Pushes the Accords into action
Now this part is just a little theory of mine for this final point, so just bear with me here. Now for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the synopsis for the next couple of episodes were released. For this theory it reflects off the synopsis:
“In the aftermath of the events of Captain America: Civil War, S.H.I.E.L.D. feels pressure to reveal their involvement with Inhumans. But with the stakes higher than ever and Hive growing stronger, the team is tested in ways they could never anticipate.”
Now from this synopsis it seems like the Sokovia Accords are passed, but why would they do this? Well, from the little theory I came up with, if Iron Man did die, this would obviously force the government in passing the law because now its just one more reason superheroes need to be controlled. Thus Cap will go into hiding. But again, that is just a theory.
Let me know on what you think about these theories and evidence!
