Might we be gifted with more X-Men films? It's looking like 20th Century Fox could make this a reality, as the actors who portray the mutants have expressed their desire to continue the series.
Jennifer Lawrence has reportedly admitted that she's "dying to come back" for more X-Men films, which was surprising, given the rumor that she was done with the franchise. And James McAvoy, who plays Professor X, is also jumping on the yes bandwagon:
"Yeah, I’ve heard … people have said she’s not into it, and stuff like that. She’s always said to me that she would think about it, definitely. So yeah, that sounds great. I hope she does, because I love working with Jennifer. And you know, we’ve been like an extended sort of family, in a weird way, for six or seven years now. Every two years, we get back together and hang out making a movie, then in six months’ time or a year’s time, we all go on the road promoting it and we see each other again. I’d be really said not to see her every couple of years.”
When he was asked if he would return to the franchise to make more films, he said:
“If they want me to, I’ll do more, yeah.”
That sounds like a resounding yes to me! McAvoy is absolutely superb in this role. And to be perfectly honest, the X-Men can't continue without Professor X.
X-Men: Apocalypse completes the trilogy that began with First Class. We will meet more classic X-Men characters in the new film, but Lawrence, McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult all return and are set for contract negotiations following its release.
If the fans want it and the actors want it, it seems like it would make absolute sense for the franchise to continue. So let's get to renewing those contracts please, why don't you, 20th Century Fox?
'X-Men: Apocalypse' will hit theaters on May 27.
