Only a bit late, the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has hit the web today. It was a bit underwhelming, but it did its job in showing everyone the plot of the movie. It's not like the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in which the plot was somewhat hidden. Overall, it was a pretty good action-packed trailer. You can watch it below:

The trailer shows what to expect from the movie in general. It also highlights that it is its own beast and has a great story of its own, so it does not have to bank on such characters as Darth Vader to make it an enjoyable watch. Speaking of Darth Vader, check out that one moment in the trailer with the hooded figure, which many fans have speculated is Vader himself.

The Hooded Figure

This one still from the trailer shows a figure with a black robe kneeling down in front of what appears to be some sort of bacta tank. What is interesting about this tank is that it is being protected by Royal Guards, who are known for guarding the Emperor or his valuables.

In the Lando comic book series, Lando and Lobot stole an imperial yacht owned by Palpatine himself with many Sith relics on board. They later found that there were two Royal Guards watching over the relics. (Great five-part series, definitely worth the read for Star Wars fans, especially if you love Lando.)

What I am trying to get at is that there is either a person (most likely Palpatine) in the bacta tank or it could be a very important relic, such as the plans for the Death Star or something else that would tie into the movie. So, if that is Palpatine, there is a relic in the bacta tank. However, I don't think this hooded figure is Palpatine.

If Not Palpatine, Then Who Is This Hooded Figure?

Many people think that the hooded figure could be Vader. First of all, since when has Darth Vader ever worn a hood? And why would he be wearing one over his big helmet? Another theory that's surfaced is that it's Vader out of his suit, with the famed uniform in the bacta tank. The Empire Strikes Back has already disproved that theory as we have already seen Vader in his chamber and how he puts on his suit. There are so many other reasons why the figure is not Darth Vader and I could go all day, but you get the gist.

It is most likely an Inquisitor. Keep in mind that this is the same time period as Star Wars: Rebels, as the show is almost like a prequel to this movie. The show introduced many different Inquisitors, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to bring one into the movie. If not an Inquisitor, it is an apprentice of some sort.

This is a new character and it could possibly be the character being played by Mads Mikkelsen, who is set to play the main villain. So, whoever he ends up playing, that character will end up being the hooded figure.
