The Greeks are coming! This may have been the call in studios across America when My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 emerged last month. Producers heard the warning and furrowed their brows to come up with something quintessentially Greek: something oozing Mediterraneanly with feta, low-fat yoghurt and debt crisis.
Freeform is developing a movie reboot of TV series Greek with the inspired title of Greek: The Reunion, Deadline reported yesterday. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with Greece. The original party-heavy characters will return but it's unclear whether the original cast will too.
The four seasons of Greek ran from 2007-2011 and centred around students from a fictional Ohio university called Cyprus-Rhodes. The comedy-drama aired on ABC Family focusing on the debaucherous Greek system of fraternities and sororities. These were namely Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ), Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ) and the sorority Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒZ). Red cups and hilarious social stereotypes abound.
The cast of Greek included Scott Michael Foster, Clark Duke, Spencer Grammer, Paul James, Amber Stevens, and Jacob Zachar. Season 1 of the show received 62% on Metacritic and 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show was nominated for three GLAAD prizes and one actor was nominated for an Image Award.
