2016 has seen the rise and fall of many highly anticipated returns to both the big and small screens. The recent "critical" failure of Batman V Superman, the surprise mega smash hit that is Deadpool, and of course the announcement of a sequel series to the hit nineties cult classic, Cruel Intentions set to star Sarah Michelle Gellar. I think it's safe to say 2016 has been one of our craziest and unexpectedly twisted years so far...and it's only four months in!
But there's been one surprising shining star that may or may not have gone unnoticed in the background of all that 2016 has repeatedly thrown at us: The skyrocketing kickstarting career resurgence of X-Men, Star Trek, Taken, and Bond veteran actress and eternal beauty, Famke Janssen.
Her recent stint on ABC's How To Get Away With Murder - combining her unmatched talent and grace to near perfection - as Eve Rothlo, the former lover and schoolmate of Viola Davis' Annalise Keating, was nothing short of Emmy-worthy. Or at least, Emmy nomination worthy. Coming off the abismal, yet somehow inescapably intriguing, failure that was Hemlock Grove, one could've come to the conclusion that Janssen's television career was over.
That may have been true. If she was a quitter. I have to say, I don't think that word is in her mental dictionary. Following the expected cancellation of Hemlock Grove after airing it's third season, Janssen quickly bounced back by landing roles in high profile projects such as Bruce Willis' upcoming comedy, titled Going Under, and This Is Your Death aloongside Hollywood hearthrob Josh Duhamel. Even though she's been replaced by Sophie Turner in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, there's still a sliver of hope she may be seen portraying Jean Grey once again in the near future.
A film she completed a few years ago will also finally get its time to shine on April 20th when Lifetime airs the Janet Grillo directed, Jack of The Red Hearts, in which Janssen will be co-starring alongside indie darling, AnnaSophia Robb.
On top of all that, it was recently reported that Famke has landed the lead role for NBC's upcoming spin-off of The Blacklist, with a character introduction during the current season's May 5th episode with a backdoor pilot airing later in the month . She will portray a character called Susan "Scottie" Halstead and will reportedly take on the same type of role that James Spader portrays in the flagship show.
Three days ago, it was reported that Janssen had signed on to portray the mother of a close friend to a young President Barack Obama in the indie drama, Barry. The film is set to explore the time when Obama was a college student, forging key relationships with his peers.
Wow. With all this, it's no wonder that every aspect of Hollywood is looking to cash in on a piece of Famke Janssen.
What do you think? Do you think Janssen is set for a career resurgence and superstardom?
