Ever since the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans and critics alike have not been hesitant to show their distaste towards director Zack Snyder.

However while promoting his new movie Midnight Special, Michael expressed how much admiration he has for his former director and his unique style:

"I have a ton of respect for Zack Snyder. I loved working with him on Man of Steel. I think his films have their own unique style and he’s very authentically drawn to that. It’s not like he makes these movies but secretly wishes he was doing something else, it's what he wants to do. It’s valid."

While no one is denying that Zack's visuals are some of the best in cinema these days, many people have pointed that his stories feel like they lack any depth or meaning, and are generally generic. Mr. Shannon however feels differently.

"When we were making Man of Steel, I really appreciated the story: it’s about a civilization that destroys their own planet. I’m like 'well, that’s relevant.' So what, the planet’s called krypton? It’s still relevant."

That is definitely a way to look at it, but regardless Snyder (for now at least) will either stand with people as a director they love or hate.

Snyder's latest film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is out in theaters now.
