Is it about time to say goodbye? Is it about time to shed those tears? I think so...

At Walker Stalker Con 2016 today, Ian Somerhalder spilled the beans to us all.

Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries will be it's last.

The Vampire Diaries has been one of the longest CW TV shows running right after Supernatural ever since 2009. The most hottest TV show, if you ask me. So much has happened in this show as we've watched our favorite characters evolve but at the same lost a few in the process as well. Nina Dobrev who played Elena Gilbert decided to exit after Season 6 where it set a wave of shock and disbelief to all that was the TVD fandom.

"How will it be TVD without it's lead female character?!"
"What about DELENA?!"

Fans asked all these non stop questions as she decided to exit the show. But as crazy as it may sound, the show must go on, right? And it did.

As much as TVD hasn't been the same without Nina, the writers were able to change the whole dynamic of the show without Elena in the picture. But now that Season 7 is almost over, fans are thinking "What the hell could they write about next?"

Recently, Kat Graham had also confirmed that next season, Season 8, would be her last on the show portraying badass witch, Bonnie Bennett. That brought on more speculation as if the show would actually continue on after Season 8 because it would mean not one but two of their main female characters will no longer on the show.

And then we all thought, if Bonnie left, what WILL TVD actually become?

The Damon and Stefan Diaries? *scratches chin*

However, there was some speculation going on that Ian Somerhalder had decided to make Season 8 his last as well, most fans suspected it for a while now but we didn't get any confirmation of that. But after his appearance at Walker Stalker Con 2016 today, here's what he said that made it all more official:

“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice, my role is shifting in the show, and we have a lot to do basically.”- Ian Somerhalder says.

For someone that's pretty much grew up with this show since the beginning, it's been a long time coming. I've loved the journey of this show and the rollercoaster ride it gave out. But I think ending it at Season 8 is a wise decision. As much as we love our Salvatore brothers and the wild journey and paths they've gone through together in Mystic Falls, I think it's time to give their story a once last ride and give it a kick ass closure this show deserves.

The CW has not give a formal statement about it just yet, but knowing that Ian isn't lying about this, it will be announced eventually.

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8pm/7c only on The CW.

Do you think Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries should be it's last?
