1. His iconic baldness is a side effect of his telepathic abilities. By academic standards, he was considered a genius when he graduated college at age 16, at which point all of his hair had fallen out as a side effect of using his ability to read the minds of his instructors. (Link 1)

2. His other notable character trait is the fact that he is confined to a wheel chair. While the X-men First Class(2011)explained this as a consequence of a fight between his team and Magneto’s, in the original comics, he was crippled after defeating an alien invader known as Lucifer who then took vengeance by dropping a massive stone on Xavier, crippling him. 3. Mainly shown in a motorized wheelchair in the media today, Charles Xavier originally used a traditional wheel chair. But after he fell in love with Princess Lilandra of the Shi’ar Empire, Shi’ar technology was used to build him a hover chair that floats just above the ground and is far more maneuverable than any other wheelchair design. 4. Not only did Xavier found the legendary X-Men group, but he also founded the New Mutants and Generation X groups. The New Mutants was a group founded by the Professor when he believed that the X-Men were dead after having been taken prisoner by the Brood. Generation X was founded by Xavier to teach and develop the powers of young mutants, but instead of teaching them himself, Xavier appointed Sean Cassidy (a.k.a. Banshee) and Emma Frost (a.k.a. The White Queen) as the headmasters of the new Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters at the site of the former Massachusetts Academy. (Link 1)

5. While on the subject of the new Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, most comic fans do not know that the school located within Xavier’s Mansion was actually renamed the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. New or less experienced mutants would attend Xavier’s School and the more experienced mutants would either transfer to the Xavier Institute or become instructors for Xavier’s School. (Link 5)

6. Speaking of Xavier’s Mansion, the building has been destroyed (more than once), but each time Charles Xavier has put every effort into maintaining the structural and historical integrity of the structure. Originally consisting of two floors, an attic, and a basement, the structure was expanded to include two subbasement levels (the War Room and the Danger Room). Shi’ar technology has also been integrated into the Mansion ranging from self-repair devices to tractor beams! (Link 1)

7. The subject of Xavier placing psychic blocks on Jean Grey’s powers was touched on in the movie X-Men: The Last Stand, but what you might not know about that situation is that Jean was only eleven years old at the time! Xavier then took Jean in as his first mutant student and taught her to use her powers, focusing primarily on her telekinesis. (Link 2)

8. While not the case with the movies, Xavier had a brother in the comics; Juggernaut! Cain Marko (a.k.a. Juggernaut) was the son of Dr. Kurt Marko who married Xavier’s mother Sharon. Xavier and Cain never got along, even as children, Cain would bully his stepbrother. The two ended up serving as soldiers in Korea, where Cain deserted under fire and Xavier went to bring him back, but he was too late to stop Cain from retrieving a ruby from an ancient cave that transformed him into the Juggernaut. (Link 3)

9. Speaking of Juggernaut, Cain and Xavier’s rivalry has continued to this day. After receiving his powers, Juggernaut has faced the X-Men time and again, only to be thwarted by Xavier each time. While physically almost no force can stop Juggernaut, Xavier’s telepathic abilities have led to his defeat on multiple occasions. (Link 3)

10. Finally, the last uncommonly known fact about Professor Xavier is that he had a son, who once killed him! David Haller (a.k.a. Legion) was the son of Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller. Legion, hoping to change his father’s life, went back in time to kill Magneto. During the fight, Xavier sacrificed himself to save his friend and the alternate timeline known as the Age of Apocalypse began. (Link 4)
