Since its release in mid-February, Deadpool has smashed through box office records on its way to becoming one of the most successful superheroes movies in recent times. And now, its leading man Ryan Reynolds has been similarly rewarded for his foul-mouthed performance as Wade Wilson:
At the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, the actor took home the trophy for Best Comedic Performance, an award (as you'll probably agree) that is not usually reserved for roles of the superhero genre.
Salt-N-Pepa introduced him onto the podium and presented him with his gong by giving a surprise performance of their '90s hit "Shoop" — a tune that we all know his on-screen character loves to shake his pert buns to on the regular. Naturally, the performance was supported by an entourage of back-up dancers dressed as our favorite antihero, prompting Ryan to say:
"I'm really glad Amy Schumer didn't win, that would be really weird with those dances."
He then continued:
"I have been trying to get Deadpool made for over a decade and I failed and it's you, the fans, that got this made. The reason I'm standing up here is because of you guys, and we had blast working on this movie, but it wasn't all unicorns and cocaine."
Finally, in the vein of Wade Wilson, Ryan also went on to extend his thank-yous to his wife, Blake Lively — revealing a rather sexy snippet of information:
"I want to thank my wife — everything I do is to make her laugh, especially the sex. Thank you."
Is 'Deadpool' the funniest superhero ever?
