Star Wars: The Force Awakens revelation Daisy Ridley just celebrated her 24th birthday on Sunday. And as if it weren't enough of a cool birthday present to carry Mark Hamill on her back just like Yoda back in the day, she won in the category for Breakthrough Performance at the MTV Movie Awards on Saturday.
Other nominees for the category were Amy Schumer for her performance in Trainwreck, Brie Larson for Room, Dakota Johnson for Fifty Shades of Grey, John Boyega for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and O'Shea Jackson Jr. for Straight Outta Compton.
Ridley Praised The Diversity Of 'Star Wars'
Stepping on stage to collect her golden popcorn statuette, the British actress thanked her team on The Force Awakens and especially praised the movie's diversity.
"It feels especially amazing to be part of a film that represents all genders, all races, and all ages in a positive way."
She later shared a celebratory snap on Instagram of her and J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, who also took home the award for Movie of the Year.
Star Wars Has Badass Female Characters, And People Love It
Her comments echo her recent Instagram post in response to critics body-shaming Rey, her character in Star Wars, saying people "relate to something in Rey they haven't found in a female character before."
Ridley is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, set for a December 2017 release.
