The dude who helped to conquer the dinosaurs in Jurassic World beat a much greater force at the MTV Awards on Saturday by claiming the award for Best Action Performance.
36-year-old Chris Pratt showed his sweet side by thanking his wife, actress Anna Faris, and their 3-year-old son, Jack, for helping him to claim the Golden Popcorn prize:
"It is a freakin' dream come true, thank you... of course my wife Anna Faris, darlin', our son was destined to be tough but thanks to you he's destined to be smart too."
But he didn't make his cute statement until after he had mentioned the names of a massive pantheon of male action icons. Among the long list were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Harrison Ford, Jackie Chan, Jason Statham, Liam Neeson, Eric Roberts, Anthony Mackie, David Hasselhoff, MTV host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Patrick Swayze.
These were Pratt's contenders for the action award:
- Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas
- Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2
- John Boyega in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool
- Vin Diesel in Furious 7
During the ceremony, The Rock called him out — while dressed as Superman — for being a Marvel star by threatening to "slap" him back to his days as a sitcom actor.
Pratt has won a string of other awards in recent years. In 2013, for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy as Star-Lord, he scored the Detroit Film Critics Society Award for Best Ensemble, the CinemaCon Award for Breakthrough Performer of the Year and the Saturn Award for Best Actor. He was also in the running for Best Male Performance, which went to Leo in The Revenant.
Pratt played the hero in Jurassic World last year, a brave raptor trainer who believes most dinosaurs are just misunderstood creatures who need a firm hand.
