The new trailer for Gears of War 4 is here and it's, well, rather déjà vu-inducing. Titled "Tomorrow," the minute-long teaser features Marcus Fenix's son as he arrives at his father's home to find it a) locust ridden and b) dilapidated. Hang on, didn't the exact same thing happen to Fenix Snr. in the first game?
And that's not the only callback. It wouldn't be a Gears trailer without a melancholic soundtrack, so a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" fills in for "Mad World" this time. Check it out — it's actually quite hauntingly beautiful:

Seeing Marcus in a domestic setting is rather jarring, but if anyone's deserving of a well-earned break it's the Delta Squad leader. Retired to his pastoral idyll, this scene seems to take place during a rare moment of peacetime. That's not to say it lasts for long...
The actual game is set 25 years after Gears of War 3, leaving ample time for Marcus's son to reach his locust-butthole-ripping prime. Spurred by a series of strange disappearances, JD Fenix must follow in his father’s heavy footsteps to take on a new enemy.
So it seems the twosome did indeed live happily ever after, though exactly how Anya will fit into the story is not yet known.
My First Roadie Run
Your family has a long and storied history, sonny. You've got a lot to live up to.
Odds on a playable flashback sequence?
JD returns to find his home abandoned. We'll have to wait and see how far his journey will take him, though Dad's sure to make an appearance at some point.
Gears 4 is scheduled to be released worldwide on October 11.
