With the primaries well underway, we're edging closer and closer to the presidential election on November 8. Every day our televisions are bombarded with the candidates whether it be from a news report, talk show appearance or a debate. However, while most politicians stick to appearances on panels or talk shows, there are some who have gone even further to cameo or act in film and television shows!
Take a look at these US politicians of past and present who have all appeared in movies or TV:
1. Senator Patrick Leahy
Senior US Senator from Vermont, Patrick Leahy has been a comic book fan for his whole life with his favorite character being Batman. Leahy made his first appearance in a Batman film in the 1995 film Batman Forever. Since then he has also appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, Batman & Robin, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870). Leahy donates all the royalties and fees from his appearances in the Batman films to charities. Check him out in The Dark Knight at the 1:32 mark:
2. Senator Hillary Clinton
Over the years Senator Clinton has made appearances on numerous talk shows and documentaries, but she's also appeared in slightly less serious shows such as Sesame Street, Saturday Night Live and, most recently, Broad City:
3. Donald Trump
Donald Trump has appeared in so many films that we wrote an entire article on the matter, but in brief, Trump has appeared in films and TV series such as Ghosts Can't Do It, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, The Little Rascals, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Sex and the City and Zoolander. Check him out in Ghosts Can't Do It which earned the businessman a Worst Supporting Actor razzie:
4. Senator John McCain
John McCain has also appeared in films and on TV series, most recently popping up in a 2015 episode of Parks and Recreation, but most memorably appearing in the 2005 film Wedding Crashers:
5. Ronald Reagan
Prior to becoming a Governor and later President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan had a very different career working in the biz! Reagan acted in film and television from 1937 until 1966, with his most famous credits being General Electric Theater, Kings Row and Bedtime for Bonzo (which Reagan claimed was his least favorite film!).
6. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Of course, no list of politician appearances in film and TV would be complete without the former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has over 50 acting credits to his name, including appearances in the Terminator franchise, the Expendables franchise, Predator and Total Recall.
