As the DC Extended Universe is off to the races, there is no denying that its past two films have received mixed reactions to say the least. Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel received split reviews among critics and his more recent Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, caused a stir between fans who generally enjoyed it and critics who were mostly unimpressed. Although the reviews for those films were mixed, both have been financially successful at the box office.

David Ayer's Suicide Squad could be the film to finally put all of those pieces together in terms of pleasing fans and critics alike, while also being financially successful at the box office. Although it is dangerous to prejudge any film from its trailers, everything Warner Bros. has released for Suicide Squad so far, offers a lot of hope.

One of the biggest critiques of both Man of Steel and Batman V. Superman was the dark and dreary tones. Of course all film is subjective, but even some of the biggest supporters of those films agree that a little more light and humor could have gone a long way. Suicide Squad seems to be on that path and it makes sense, not as a response to critiques of the previous films, but because it fits the characters of the story. You can expect steady bouts of humor and heavy doses of fun by bringing some of the most despicable comic book villains together as a team of temporary crime-fighters. Characters like Harley Quinn and Deadshot are perfect examples of this.

For those who are not familiar with the comic book stories of the ragtag team, Warner Bros. has been highlighting its more iconic characters in the film like the Joker, Harley Quinn, and Batman to attract a wider audience. If the trailers for this film are any indication of its quality, expect Suicide Squad to right the ship for Warner Bros and the DCEU. The film is set for release on August 5.
