If you were a fan of the original Ratchet and Clank game for the PS2, you'll love this. While staying entirely on course with the original plot line, being a remake and all, it brings so many injections of fun just within the revamped graphics and sound alone. Not only is it filled entirely with incredible features introduced in previous games of the franchise, but it brings it all together and ties it up with a nice bow. The game based on the movie based on the game brought together this wonderful franchise with a strong addition. The controls handle perfectly, there are plenty of variations on enemies, all the fun characters you can remember and this game blows you away with nostalgia of past PlayStation installments.
With a great voice cast to boast the dialogue and humor strike every not perfectly. It's almost as if Insomniac Games took this series in a great direction, treating this game as if it were a 'greatest hits'. With nearly 14 years of iteration and refinement this game hits a home run. Everything from the customisable weapon shortcuts to the perfect balance of challenge and smooth longevity of the platforming mechanics this game truly found it's roots and sucked up every nutrient that it could find. A new addition in this game are the collectible cards. The card collection allows for variation and lengthy hunts filled with fun and excitement, with big Gold Bolts around every corner.
Every familiar area is all but familiar. Each level shows the developer's eye for detail and determination to make this installment unforgettable and gorgeous.
Games based on movies have a pretty poor reputation on the quality front, yet somehow Ratchet & Clank demonstrates class in so many different ways that even referring to it as a movie tie-in sells it short. If you've never had the pleasure of enjoying this series' brand of third-person blasting before then this is the perfect chance to see just why the property has remained popular for over a decade. If you're already a fan, then this remake is a truly wonderful entry in the franchise, and while it doesn't do anything particularly new in this genre of game or series in general, it's a greatest hits compilation so compelling that you would never want to skip it.
This game truly hit a note with me that took me back to being a child excited to get home and play on his brand spanking new PlayStation 2 after school, I give this game a rating of:
5 stars out of 5 stars: Truly unforgettable and nostalgia-fueled!
