David Wenham has joined the growing cast of coming-to-Netflix show Marvel's Iron Fist as brutal corporate villain Harold Meachum. Woo hoo!
The 50-year-old Aussie actor is no stranger to epic fantastical roles: His bristling resume includes the Lord of the Rings trilogy as Faramir, Van Helsing as Carl and the 300 movies as Dilios. He will also appear in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean as a character named Scarfield.
Executive producer and show-runner Scott Buck said in an official Marvel release:
“David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence. This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season."
Marvel decorated the announcement with this teaser image. Apparently Meachum being sickly is headline New York news:
Wenham joins Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick (both in Game of Thrones), who will appear as Danny Rand/Iron Fist and Colleen Wing respectively. The series is produced for Netflix by Marvel TV with ABC.
Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb recognized Wenham's pile of experience when he said:
"David brings both a vulnerability and a danger to his many diverse roles. This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises."
Watch out for Dangerous Dave.
All Marvel have let us know so far is that Harold Meachum was "partners" with Rand's parents when they died. In the comics he is responsible for their deaths — chucking Wendell Rand off a mountain and driving Heather Rand into the slavering mouths of wolves by professing his love for her, orphaning Danny.
Meachum is not to be confused with the US president's crony/lover Edward Meechum (played by Nathan Darrow) in House of Cards.
