Dark Souls 3 is finally out and players have largely acknowledged that it represents a culmination of the mercilessly difficult series, combining mechanical elements from all previous entries (as well as Bloodborne) to form the definitive Souls experience.

Players have also noticed that Dark Souls 3 is significantly shorter than its predecessors, at least according to early reports.

It's important to note that people who've completed the game this soon after release are likely to be seasoned veterans of the franchise. Nevertheless, data gathered from HowLongToBeat.com indicates that its runtime clocks in around 10 hours less than the franchise average. Take a look at how the games compare below:

So far the fastest speed run for Dark Souls 3 stands at 1h 42m 10s, though expect that number to plummet as players discover the many short-cutting secrets undoubtedly hidden away.

It may be the shortest, but is it the easiest?

The short answer is no. This is still a Souls game and there's still no easy mode to fall back on. While early completionists have cruised through the game at an unusually rapid pace, that doesn't mean it's a cakewalk. So prepare to die. A lot.

What are you initial impressions of the trilogy's finale? Have you been progressing faster than expected?
