FromSoftware's latest masterpiece is upon is — and what a masterpiece it is! Dark Souls 3 is the perfect conclusion to a franchise that has no equal in modern gaming. But, like with many RPGs, you may find it difficult to actually settle on a character build at the outset of the game.

Therefore, we thought we'd run you through the 10 classes that FromSoftware has to offer and the various benefits that come with each one. Which class will you pick?

The Choices Of Class In 'Dark Souls 3'

Knight

An obscure knight of poor renown who collapsed roaming the land. Sturdy, owing to high vitality and stout armor.

The Knight is essentially the standard choice for many who engage with the Souls series. This class starts out with a Knight's Helmet, Gauntlets, Trousers, Armor and handy Longsword. A great choice for those who aren't familiar with Dark Souls and are looking to kick ass early on.

Stats - Level: 9 Vigor: 12 Attunement: 10 Endurance: 11 Vitality: 15 Strength: 13 Dexterity: 12 Intelligence: 9 Faith: 9 Luck: 7

Mercenary

A mercenary and veteran of the battlefield. High dexterity allows masterful wielding of dual scimitars.

Outfitted with a set of Sellsword Twinblades, Wooden Shield, Sellsword Helm, Sellsword Armor, Sellsword Gauntlet, Sellsword Trousers, the Mercenary isn't considered as one of the more popular classes for Dark Souls 3, but this class has plenty of worth. Those swords are awesome!

Stats - Level: 8 Vigor: 11 Attunement: 12 Endurance: 11 Vitality: 10 Strength: 10 Dexterity: 16 Intelligence: 10 Faith: 8 Luck: 9

Warrior

Descendant of northern warriors famed for their brawn. Utilizes high strength to wield a heavy battleaxe.

Carrying a Battle Axe and a Round Shield, the warrior will give you a powerful edge over your enemies at the outset of the game. They're fitted with the Northern Helm, Northern Armor, Northern Gloves and Northern Trousers.

Stats - Level: 7 Vigor: 14 Attunement: 6 Endurance: 12 Vitality: 11 Strength: 16 Dexterity: 9 Intelligence: 8 Faith: 9 Luck: 11

Herald

A former herald who journeyed to finish a quest undertaken. Wields a sturdy spear and employs a gentle restorative miracle.

This is where Dark Souls 3 introduces magic. This is the first class on the list that demonstrates a degree of efficiency from the outset with regards to miracles. However, the spear can be a challenging weapon to wield for newcomers, but has a great advantage when it comes to reach. They wield a Spear, Kite Shield and Talisman, while wearing the Herald Helm, Herald Armor, Herald Gloves and Herald Trousers.

Stats - Level: 9 Vigor: 12 Attunement: 10 Endurance: 9 Vitality: 12 Strength: 12 Dexterity: 11 Intelligence: 8 Faith: 13 Luck: 11

Thief

A common thief and pitiful deserter. Wields a dagger intended for backstabs alongside a military-issue bow.

Keep your distance with a bow, or get up close and personal and stab your enemy in the back. Thieves have the advantage of causing great damage to those who they can circumvent. Having a bow from the beginning is also a great advantage. This class's equipment includes the Bandit Knife, Iron Round Shield, Short Bow, 30 Wood Arrows, Thief Mask, Deserter Armor and Deserter Trousers.

Stats - Level: 5 Vigor: 10 Attunement: 11 Endurance: 10 Vitality: 9 Strength: 9 Dexterity: 13 Intelligence: 10 Faith: 8 Luck: 14

Assassin

An assassin who stalks their prey from the shadows. Favors sorceries in addition to thrusting swords.

Magic returns once more with the Assassin. This class is outfitted with the Estoc, Target Shield, Sorcerer’s Staff, Assassin’s Hood, Assassin’s Armor, Assassin’s Trousers and the Spell "Spook." The sorcerer's staff introduces spells into the classes, something which is not always thought about when players pick up a Souls game. While most prefer to hack away at their enemies, there's a lot to be said for spell-casting in FromSoftware's trilogy.

Stats - Level: 10 Vigor: 10 Attunement: 14 Endurance: 11 Vitality: 10 Strength: 10 Dexterity: 14 Intelligence: 11 Faith: 9 Luck: 10

Sorcerer

A loner who left formal academia to pursue further research. Commands soul sorceries using high intelligence.

Intelligence is the key to wielding the might of magic in Dark Souls 3. The sorcerer is a master of magical powers, whether that be healing yourself, launching flaming projectiles at your enemies or hexing your foes. You start out with a fair few spells and some decent gear: Mail Breaker, Leather Shield, Sorcerer’s Staff, Sorcerer’s Hood, Sorcerer’s Robe, Sorcerer’s Gloves, Sorcerer’s Trousers, Young Dragon Ring, Spell "Soul Arrow" and Spell "Heavy Soul Arrow".

Stats - Level: 6 Vigor: 9 Attunement: 16 Endurance: 9 Vitality: 7 Strength: 7 Dexterity: 12 Intelligence: 16 Faith: 7 Luck: 12

Pyromancer

A pyromancer from a remote region who manipulates flame. Also an adept close combat warrior who wields a hand axe.

With an axe in hand and lethal efficiency with fire type spells, the pyromancer is a deadly foe in the world of Dark Souls 3. The flame related powers in this universe are always a pleasure to utilize, but they take a while to obtain. Not with this one. You'll start with the following: Hand Axe, Caduceus Round Shield, Pyromancy Flame, Pyromancer Crown, Pyromancer Garb, Pyromancer Wrap, Pyromancer Trousers, Great Swamp Ring and the "Fireball" Spell.

Stats - Level: 8 Vigor: 11 Attunement: 12 Endurance: 10 Vitality: 8 Strength: 12 Dexterity: 9 Intelligence: 14 Faith: 14 Luck: 7

Cleric

A traveling cleric who collapsed from exhaustion. Channels high faith to cast many and varied miracles.

There are the masters of spells and then there are the masters of miracles. The clerics of Dark Souls 3 fall into the latter. They wield a Mace, the Cleric’s Sacred Chime, Cleric Blue Robe, Cleric Gloves, Cleric Trousers, and are outfitted with the "Heal" Miracle and "Force" Miracle.

Stats - Level: 7 Vigor: 10 Attunement: 14 Endurance: 9 Vitality: 7 Strength: 12 Dexterity: 8 Intelligence: 7 Faith: 16 Luck: 13

Deprived

Naked and of unknown origin. Either an unimaginable fool in life, or was stripped of possessions upon burial.

Starting the game with a club, a plank of wood for a shield and a loincloth, this is the way to enter Dark Souls 3 with a certain kind of death wish. With little equipment and no outright skill in any area, this class is left for you to mould. You'll die far easier at the beginning, but can eventually catch up with the other classes and create something of your own.

Stats - Level: 1 Vigor: 10 Attunement: 10 Endurance: 10 Vitality: 10 Strength: 10 Dexterity: 10 Intelligence: 10 Faith: 10 Luck: 10

So, Which Is The Best?

FromSoftware perform admirably when it comes to creating classes of varying abilities, each of which will have benefits for different players and varying play styles. There really isn't a best option. But for beginners, the Knight class is probably the best choice for Dark Souls 3.

The Souls series is my favorite in gaming history, so I've gone for the Deprived class in order to punish myself one last time before FromSoftware wrap it all up. But if you're interested in what's popular, here are the results of a recent pole on reddit:

1. Knight (21%) 2. Deprived (17%) 3. Herald (11%) 4. Pyromancer (10%) 5. Warrior (9%) 6. Mercenary (9%) 7. Assassin (8%) 8. Thief (7%) 9. Sorcerer (5%) 10. Cleric (4%).

What class will you pick in 'Dark Souls 3'?
