Seems to be a common reason relationships in Hollywood don't last, and it can't be easy.
Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson may be happily married with children now, but once upon a time they were married to each other and were a power couple in Hollywood. In 2011 the couple called it quits and filed for divorce, so what happened? Scarlett Johansson recently sat down with Cosmopolitan magazine and opened up about how easy it is for two successful people in Hollywood to fail in their relationships with one another. Could she be talking about her marriage to Ryan Reynolds?
Scarlett says that when one's success outweighs the other's, it can cause tension:
"There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people's careers are going at the same rate... Or even if one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging. There may be a competitive thing."
At that time in their marriage, Scarlett was busy filming The Avengers while Ryan was starring in Green Lantern and The Change-Up. Both careers were taking off, so it wouldn't be surprising that the two were feeling the pressure of success. While the divorce must have been devastating, it sounds like the two just grew part and that there are no hard feelings.
This may be an unfortunately common end to many Hollywood relationships, as sometimes one partner may be in the middle of having their big break while the other falls by the wayside. This seems like one of the sad realities of your relationship being in the spotlight 24/7.
It's sad things between the two didn't work out, but the good news is that both Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have since found lasting happiness. Scarlett with journalist Romain Dauriac, with whom she has a 1-year-old son, and Ryan Reynolds to actress Blake Lively, with whom he has a 1-year-old daughter.
So, there are happy endings in Hollywood, just like anywhere else — it just may take some work. It's just refreshing to see the two enjoying family and success after some serious heartache, and hey, they are both Marvel characters on the big screen now!
Bet they didn't see that coming!
