Perhaps one of the biggest items of controversy from the [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409) trailers is the shot below. The shot features a man in a tank that would appear to be Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The only problem is that Bucky is outside of the tank aiming his gun at Iron Man who has just launched an attack on Captain America. So who is the man that is in containment?
Alright have you looked at the image for a while? Are you feeling a bit frustrated? Well alright then, let's look at our possibilities.
Many fans have speculated that Crossbones may indeed be the man in containment. The theory is that Iron Man is planning on freeing Crossbones in order to help him round up Captain America and the rest of the unregistered superheroes. In a way, this seems like kind of a villainous act made by Tony Stark that would definitely up the film's intensity levels. Especially if this is an act of complete desperation. That said, the person in the tank really does not appear to look much like Crossbones or his alter ego Brock Rumlow.
Just given the fact that we haven't seen Baron Zemo yet in the Captain America: Civil War trailers automatically makes him a suspect for the 'tank person'. I mean we honestly have not been given much information about Baron Zemo at all besides the fact we know that he is indeed in the film (you can see my article on Baron Zemo's potential role here https://moviepilot.com/posts/3844782). With that covered, the figure in containment still doesn't really look like the Baron Zemo we are familiar with. Plus, it seems like kind of an injustice (no DC pun intended) to hold off such a major villain until what seems to be a final fight scene.
This brings me to me big and final theory of speculation. That the person in the tank me be none other than the Chameleon.
This may seem like a bit of a stretch or a what if type of thing, but just think about it. If Spider-Man is in the film, than that means Spider-Man villains must also exist somewhere in the MCU. Let's say that Captain America has actually been fooled into thinking he has found Bucky but really it was the Chameleon disguised as Bucky. Tony Stark could have possibly hired the Chameleon and put him up to the task of getting secrets from Team Cap. Then Tony Stark could have also had the Chameleon attempt to assassinate him while dressed as Bucky, (as seen in the trailers) in order to frame Bucky and get to Cap. So possibly, Bucky Barnes is yet still the man in the tank and the Bucky aiming at Iron Man in the photo up top is actually aiming at Captain America. How's that for a plot twist? That said, Spider-Man was more of later edition to the film so the chances of this theory actually happening are slim. Still, how awesome could that be if it was true?
That's all I have for now. Could the Bucky from the trailers actually be the Chameleon? Let me know in the comments down below.
