I have to address the elephant in the room here, this looks like Inception and Interstellar. It really is uncanny but to be honest I can't really complain because Inception is one of my favorite movies and I thought Interstellar was quite good. Granted I'm not going to hold it against the movie because of the similarities.
I am not the biggest Marvel fan. I enjoy their movies for what they are but I am kind of getting superhero fatigue. Not because the movies are bad but because we just get so many of them. This one I think will be special because the idea itself seems really cool. Dr. Stephen Strange is a arrogant surgeon who only cares about money. After he is in a car accident that destroys his hands he travels the world to try and find a way to repair them. Eventually he finds The Ancient One who teaches him a bunch of magical shit. That part sounds fine and it's not what excites me what excites me is all the reality bending stuff. I really hope that in the movie it's not just cop out visions and stuff like but it plays a big part in the story and it has consequences.
Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange could not have been a more perfect fit. He looks exactly like him in the comics, it's great, plus i'm a Cumberbitch so there is that. Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, well all I can say is that she has no hair. The director is Scott Derrickson and the only notable movie that he has made is The Day the Earth Stood Still remake that no one remembers and Sinister which I thought was great. It also continues the trend of hiring small directors for big projects.
I have high hopes for this movie. It has a lot going for it. I hope the writer of The Darkest Hour does not fuck it up and it does not end up being another superhero movie I don't really care about, I want it to be special and I think it will be.
