The Rock has long been vocal about supporting our troops and the big-hearted Fast & Furious fan favorite has once more given a veteran his well-deserved moment in the spotlight after being approached for a selfie at the gym.
John Henderson, a 73-year-old Vietnam vet, initially thought he was the only person who was going to be lucky enough to get a photo with a legend that day, but as soon as Dwayne Johnson heard his story, the 43-year-old megastar knew he needed to get a selfie with a hero too.
The Rock tells the story of his encounter in detail in the caption of his Instagram post, so I'll let the big man speak for himself on this one, he wrote:
Every hard core gym around the world has one "OG" of the gym. The man everyone knows and respects 'cause after all these years, he still "gets after it" daily. 73yr old, Vietnam vet, John Henderson is that man. I was leaving the gym after my early morning workout and he was coming in and said "At some point I'd like to snap a pic with you before you leave our town". I said "Well how bout we do it right now!?" He took out his phone and we took the pic. He said "God bless you and thank you". I said "You're welcome and have a good day John". I got in my truck and started to drive off. Buuuut then I thought "You know what let me go back and grab a pic with my phone with that OG who paved the way for so many of us". When he came back out he said, "Ya know I've been around this world my whole life and been inspired by a lot of things. This really makes me happy". I said "I appreciate you and all you do. You inspire all of us to keep on keepin' on". The best part was once we took this pic, he started to walk away and I got back up in my truck.. and he turned back and said "Dwayne... nutrition. Don't forget your nutrition. It's the most thing we can do." I smiled and said "Yes sir, I won't!" and I drove off. Made me think that no matter where they come from - military, the streets, sports etc.. there ain't nothin' like that OG wisdom that can only come from years of experience. #OGWisdom #MrHenderson #ThatsThatGooooodShit
If you're curious what an OG who has been pumping it at the gym for all of his adult life looks like, check out John in all his glory in the image below:
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been supportive of the troops throughout his career and he hosted Rock The Troops on Veterans Day last year in honor of all of the service people who are dedicating themselves to protecting America, in an impassioned speech he explained:
"It is so important to me to give back to the troops. I really want to create something special for our boys and girls who are overseas and hopefully we do such a good job that we can do it again and again. I have military in my family, some vets and two Navy SEALs. That was the genesis of that.
The idea was to create a show that was epic and big and that would entertain and honor our troops. I loved the idea and I am very serious about calling in favors and giving it a good deal of my energy and time. It is incredibly ambitious but we have a lot of resources to meet the ambition.
You get around these great men and women of the armed forces and you get instant perspective. I can have the life I have and the career I have because of what they do everyday. They ensure our way of life. We enjoy the freedoms we have because of the brave men and women who serve so the least we can do is give back. I anticipate a lot of my friends who are celebrities, in Hollywood, sports and music, to be a part of this epic event for our troops."
As he mentioned in the speech above, The Rock has family in the military, including a cousin who is a Navy Seal. The WWE megastar posted the picture below in honor of his relative's service on Memorial Day 2013 with the caption:
