Although it isn't uncommon for singers to branch out and make cameo appearances on film or TV, it's rare that they will ever be as big a fan of the show as Rob Thomas is of iZombie.
The lead singer of Matchbox Twenty even asked producer of the show, (also named) Rob Thomas, if he could delay reading the script before catching up with previous episodes to avoid spoilers.
Rob Thomas Asking Rob Thomas To Play Rob Thomas
Unfortunately for the 44-year-old singer, the episodes prior to his Season 2 finale appearance were ruined, but it looks like that's a small price to pay. In an interview with TV Insider, Thomas spoke of his delight at being a part of the show. He said:
"When [iZombie Rob Thomas] called me, it was straight-up: 'Hey, I don't know if you've seen it, but I've got this show 'iZombie,' and we're getting ready to do the Season 2 finale. Do you think you might want to come in and play yourself?' I thought I could play myself just about better than anybody."
The singer also spoke of the fun he had on set, claiming he made "legitimate friendships" with the cast and producers. Rob Buckley, who plays Major on the show, clearly felt the same way, claiming he was: "such a sweet, sweet guy, and his wife is great."
Brains For Breakfast
The CW show is loosely based on the DC comic book series and focuses on Olivia "Liv" Moore (Rose McIver), a young woman who is turned into a zombie. She uses her occupation in a morgue as a means of getting her fix for devouring human brains, using the corpses of murder victims.
Last month it was announced that the show will be returning for a third season in addition to its 42 episodes across two seasons. For those who haven't yet seen the season finale, check out the preview below. Producer Thomas cautiously proclaimed: "not everyone will survive" in the episode.
