Ever since the inception of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios has really kept ahead of the game by announcing their film slates for years to come. Phases 1 and 2 went by without any changes to the original slate, while phase 3 has been changed several times, with additions like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Ant-Man and The Wasp. However, the culmination of the entire Marvel universe will be Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, after which characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and The Hulk, who formed the original Avengers team, may be replaced by other characters such as the Winter Soldier, War Machine or She-Hulk (we can always dream). So with such a huge shake-up, phase 4 has been a true mystery, with no films truly confirmed for it. New characters introduced with their own films in phase 3 such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man, we assumed that phase 4 would focus on the continuation of their stories, as well as that of The Inhumans.

However, there is another trilogy which will not finish in phase 3, and we have gotten confirmation (as if we needed any) that it will end the wonderful journey it took us on in 2014 at some point in Marvel's Phase 4.

In 2014, James Gunn gave us a completely different type of Marvel film. It was a space-opera, and we haven't looked back since. Next year, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released, and it has been confirmed that Star-Lord, leader of the Guardians, will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, meaning that the rest of the Guardians will probably follow. However, Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be a part of Marvel's phase 4.

“We’re only working on what’s been announced through the end of 2019. And it is still a big chess board for 2020 and beyond, but certainly I would say Guardians 3 is [one film that’s] up there. I don’t know what exactly the order will be.”

While we don't even know if Guardians 3 will fill one of the three spots open in 2020 yet, it is certainly coming in Marvel's phase 4, presumably with James Gunn returning to write and direct, because let's face it, Marvel probably wouldn't trust anyone else with this property!

Thanks for reading guys! If you want to hear more about what films could be in Marvel's phase 4 then drop me a follow!
