Lower the shades. Take the phone of the hook. And, put on the Zeppelin because Marvel’s Cinematic Universe just got psychedelic.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night, Benedict Cumberbatch introduced the latest (and definitely “strangest”) Marvel superhero yet. If you thought Ant-Man’s “going subatomic” to save his own daughter was out there, then this newest trailer is straight mind-bending.
Dr. Strange features a neurosurgeon, played by Cumberbatch, who gains mystical powers after a horrific car accident. This first trailer focuses on Dr. Strange and his mentor, the Ancient One, as he gains greater awareness of these new-found, hidden realities. The opening scene depicts an unconscious Dr. Strange with a mysterious voice-over that warns him: “Might I offer you some advice? Forget everything you think you know.” That ominous note sets the tone for the entire release, ending with Dr. Strange begging, “Teach me.”
While the trailer teases fans to the magic and alternate dimensions that await in Marvel’s fourteenth film, it also leaves lots of questions. Outside of our title Sorcerer Supreme, there are only glimpses of the other characters, including the secretive villain played by Mads Mikkelsen.
Starring Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor, Doctor Strange is set to release November 4. If you’re all hopped up and need another Dr. Strange “fix,” check out the character’s history here or an extended breakdown of the trailer here.
