If there's something Strange in your neighborhood, you're probably looking at the fabulous Marvel trailer for Benedict Cumberbatch's leading superhero debut: Doctor Strange!
Now that Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast as Karl Mordo, the question on every fan's lips is who the heck is Mads Mikkelsen playing?
The official line on Mads's character is fairly open to interpretation: Feige says that Mikkelsen is:
"A sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect [from the Ancient One]. [He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through."
The picture of Mads Mikkelsen — who is expected to be the Big Bad of the piece — is also quite mysterious and thought-provoking: He definitely doesn't look 100% like any of the comics characters, but he's vaguely sorcerer-y so he could be any of them!
So who the heck are ya, Mads? Here are the three most likely choices (based on the general chatter from fan discussions):
Aliases: Dread One, The Black One, Eater of Souls, Lord of Darkness, Lord of Chaos, Lord of the Dark Dimension
Dormammu is a pretty big Big Bad, and comes with some exciting prospects for Scarlet Witch and Loki if Marvel choose the Avengers/Defenders War path.
Aliases: Edvard Haberdash
With his strong jawline and crusty eyes on set, Nightmare seems to be the best fit — physically — for Mads's role right now. Nightmare would bring some pretty cool dream effects into the Marvel canon, providing a fresh, new type of supervillain for the silver screen.
Aliases: Charles Benton
The Sons of Satannish could be a very cool part of the movie, creating pathways for other comic canon elements such as the Book of the Vishanti and Wakanda, too.
