Avid fans of the 1922 horror classic Nosferatu may find a little saving grace in knowing that the upcoming remake aims to stay as stylistically close to the original as possible.

What a pleasant surprise

David Lee Fisher is directing the project, which recently began filming and will apparently apply the same "remix" style he adopted when rebooting The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 2005.

The technique is one which pulls backgrounds from the German originals and splicing them with modernized updates to create a similar feel. According to Fisher, the style works by using:

“…a mixture of live-action combined with colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film.”

Noseratu will star Doug Jones (Hellboy) as Count Orlok alongside Emrhys Cooper, Joely Fisher, Sarah Carter, and Jake Turner. Release dates to follow.

What do you think about the remake?
