If you were hoping for Agents J and K to have their limits — and patience — tested by the lovable 21 Jump Street duo of Jenko and Schmidt, then your dreams might be dashed.

Empire Online reports that it is unlikely Men in Black mainstays Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will be returning for MIB 23, Sony's crossover film that unites the alien-busting secret service agents with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's Jump Street doublet.

The publication speculates that the original Men in Black actors will be replaced with new characters. It's hard to imagine Will Smith in a hard-R movie with the type of humor that Jump Street provides, but it would have been amazing to see the grumpy Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) in that context.

Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are developing MIB 23 with writer Rodney Rothman, and the project is to be directed by James Bobin, scheduled for release sometime in 2017.
