As the hardcore Star Wars fans probably know, Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew has been tweeting a few pages of an early Star Wars script — so early that it was still called The Adventures of Luke Starkiller and referenced "The Journal of the Whills."

There have been lots of cool little differences here and there, but perhaps the biggest disparity came earlier this week, when the tweets reached the climactic Death Star escape in which Obi-Wan Kenobi battles his former pupil Darth Vader.

The pivotal scene in A New Hope plays out with Obi-Wan sacrificing himself to help Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie escape — not to mention propelling Luke's journey forward — but this script shows something quite different:

That's right, Obi-Wan was originally meant to survive and fight another day. Thankfully, the decision was made to kill him off, making for an iconic scene and a far more powerful story.
