Remember back in 2009 when the biggest movie of the year was a film where weird blue creatures showed us new ways to live? Where they would "plug in" to the environment and creatures around them to create a kind of symbiotic relationship?
Fast forward to April 14, 2016. Fox has just ended its CinemaCon with a bang, bringing up "Avatar" director James Cameron to announce some very big news: "Avatar" will be getting four new stand-alone sequels that will, together, make up the "Avatar saga".
"I've been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters to design the world of Avatar going forward: the characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures. So far, the art I'm seeing is, in pure imagination, really far beyond the first film. It's going to be a true epic saga."
While I am usually not one to condone film sequels, the stand-alone nature of these films makes me excited to see what Cameron has come up with. We're going to have to wait a while to see it, however. Cameron has said that the timeline of the releases will be 2018 (opposite "Star Wars: Space Bear"), 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Will you be going to see "Avatar", "Star Wars", or both in December of 2018? Let me know in the comments below and follow me for more exciting news about this and other exciting developments.
