Prior to his work on the popular hits The Conjuring and Furious 7, James Wan was at the helm of the Insidious franchise. After Insidious: Chapter 2, Wan handed the reins over to his Saw co-writer Leigh Whannell, who directed last year's Insidious: Chapter 3.
After grossing almost $372 million worldwide, with more than $100 million from the third movie alone, and delighting horror fans everywhere, it should come as no surprise that this franchise plans on adding more to its movies.
At CinemaCon this week, Sony announced that it hopes to keep the success of Insidious going with a fourth installment. Currently there's no word on who will be directing the project, but it sounds likely that Whannell will be back behind the camera.
According to We Got You Covered, last year Whannell discussed a hypothetical time period and focus that another sequel could explore:
“I haven’t really thought about it yet. But for the purposes of this interview, I’ll say that I’d like to explore the time between this film and the first film. That whole area there where Elise has rediscovered her gift, I think you could have a lot of adventures before she arrives. So I think there is a lot of room there. We’ve kind of established Lin [Shaye] in this particular film as kind of this superhero, so that would be kind of interesting to explore in the other films.”
Hopefully we'll be heading into The Further sooner rather than later.
Would you watch another 'Insidious' sequel?
