J.J. Abrams may just be the luckiest guy in the world. Not only has he directed a Star Wars movie, the lucky son of a gun also knows who Rey's parents are!
While at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Force Awakens director debunked several theories about Rey's parentage while also revealing that he knows who her parents are. During an audience Q&A, a young Star Wars fan asked the burning question that everyone has been pondering since last December: Who are Rey's parents?
After jokingly telling the fan to leave, Abrams told the audience that we haven't actually met Rey's parents yet:
"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. So I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too."
This certainly debunks pretty much every theory out there. We have heard theories that Luke is her father (Hamill must have been dying to say "I am your father"), and we have heard that Leia and Han were her parents, making her and Kylo Ren siblings. I guess it still leaves the "Rey is Obi-Wan's granddaughter" theory open for discussion.
Fans can expect to get more clues about Rey's parents when Star Wars: Episode VIII is released December 15, 2017!
