Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie, Margot Robbie!
Everyone should probably get used to that name, because the way things are going, it looks like it has some major staying power in Hollywood!
Born on July 2, 1990 in Dalby, Queensland, in Australia, she got her first starring role with a guest spot in 2008 as Caitlin Brentford in an Australian series called City Homicide. A handful of roles later (all in the same year!), and bam! She got her first big TV role, again in 2008, in the Australian show Neighbours. She played Donna Freedman in 329 episodes, from 2008-2014. That's right, 329 episodes!
But on to the reasons why she's the perfect actress to play Harley Quinn.
Two of those reasons come from two of her latest huge starring roles, in The Legend of Tarzan and The Wolf of Wall Street. And both have something to do with getting a little too physical with her extremely famous co-stars.
During her audition for Wolf, she knew she needed to make her mark or she might not get the job. So what does she do? Read her words for yourself:
In my head I was like, ‘You have literally 30 seconds left in this room and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, just take it.’ And so I start screaming at him and he’s yelling back at me. And he’s really scary. I can barely keep up.
And he ends it saying, ‘You should be happy to have a husband like me. Now get over here and kiss me.’ So I walk up really close to his face and then I’m like, ‘Maybe I should kiss him. When else am I ever going to get a chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio, ever?’
But another part of my brain clicks and I just go, Whack! I hit him in the face. And then I scream, ‘Fuck you!’ And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze.
Yep, she slapped the future (finally) oscar-winning actor! And he loved it so much that he asked her to hit him again!
Here's a scene from the movie, showing how feisty she can get:
But wait, there's more!
In Tarzan, in a love scene with her co-star Alexander Skarsgård, director David Yates suggested she get a little physical with him, to spice it up. And that she did. She punched a guy almost a foot taller than her while filming a love scene with him.
If all that doesn't scream “Harley Quinn!” then I don't know what does!
As a little bonus, here's a clip from Focus, with Will Smith, that shows how good she can play the manipulator...something that will come in handy for her role as Harley Quinn!
