Just when you thought the stampede of excitement caused by the Jumanji reboot couldn't get any more thunderous, we learned that The Rock and Kevin Hart could be the comedy duo to welcome us back to the jungle in suitably riotous fashion.
Seriously, who would be better equipped to whoop the king of the jungle's ass in the scene from the nostalgic clip below?
Sony seems to be totally sticking to its guns after announcing that they would "reimagine" the Jumanji storyline and "update it for the present" by seeking to harness the hilarious comedic chemistry of The Rock and Kevin Hart to drag the '90s family favorite into the millennial mindset.
Johnson and Hart, who demonstrate their belly-laugh bromance potential in the trailer for Central Intelligence (below), are reportedly currently in talks to front the reboot, and Variety reports the pair are:
"Moving toward a deal"
Don't hold your breath for the majestic sight of The Rock and Kevin astride a bucking rhino just yet though, the actors' jam-packed schedules mean that this cast made in heaven is far from set in stone just yet.
Jake Kasdan of Bad Teacher and Sex Tape fame is already set to direct, so it's a fair assumption that there will be heavy focus on the comedic element of the Jumanji story, albeit more family friendly than both the director's and potential stars' previous work!
I don't know about you guys, but I'm all for this possible casting. Nobody will ever be able to replace Robin Williams and the stellar performance he put into this movie, but something tells me Hart and Johnson have what it takes to bring the feels and the funnies in a way that will do Jumanji justice.
The currently untitled Jumanji reboot will begin shooting this summer, with its current release date penciled in for July 28, 2017.
