You know, we seem to be getting a distinct vibe from the creative team behind The Force Awakens. The consensus is: we all need to cool it with the speculation over Rey's parents. Just last week Daisy Ridley brought out that the focus should be on Rey, not her origin. However, we've all seen Empire Strikes Back and so we know that when Star Wars keeps a parental secret, it's usually really good. Thus, we've kept up the speculation train. A few days ago, TFA Director J.J. Abrams commented on Rey's parents during an interview with Chris Rock at the Tribeca Film Festival. He said:
Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII, so I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.
You could see how all of us fans would have taken this out of proportion. We have all thought for years that she has to be the child of either Luke or Leia. Was J.J. saying all of that speculation was wrong and her parents are new characters? Here's what J.J. had to say in clarification to EW:
What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.
Okay, we all erased our dry erase board's filled with speculation and proof, so now it's time to get back to the drawing board. Who do you think Rey's parents are? Tell me in the comments!
