J.A. Bayona, director of the acclaimed films The Orphanage and The Impossible, has been named the director of Universal's sequel to Jurassic World, which has grossed a whopping $1.6 billion worldwide.
Colin Trevorrow, director of the 2015 gargantuan hit, is executive producing and co-writing the script with Derek Connolly, giving up directing duties in order to work on Star Wars: Episode IX.
Bayona was previously attached to direct a World War Z sequel for Paramount but left the project in January. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning for the next Jurassic adventure, due for release June 22, 2018.
Bayona's latest film, A Monster Calls, hits theaters October 14 of this year.
