Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley is set to team up with J.J. Abrams once again in the Paramount Pictures fantasy romance Kolma. This will be Ridley's first starring role outside of the Star Wars franchise. Abrams is set to produce the film while Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) is currently in talks to direct. In 2013, Ron Howard was set to direct the film but negotiations ultimately fell flat. The film's budget is estimated to be between $60 and $70 million dollars which leaves room for solid visual effects work.
The film's plot is based on the 2003 Israeli film All I've Got which follows a couple who get into a serious car accident that ends the man's life. Many years later, the women grows old after establishing her own family and enters the afterlife on a ferry. There, she is presented with a choice to start over as a 22-year-old with none of her established memories or remain 72 in the afterlife with her long lost love. The film has been described as a cross between The Notebook (2004) and Defending Your Life (1991).
After her debut in The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley has been garnering praise from many people in Hollywood and is becoming a highly coveted actress. Last month it was rumored that she was in talks to play Lora Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot. She has since recently confirmed those talks. Considering that The Force Awakens was just her first debut in a feature-length film, it appears now that the actress will have many more opportunities coming her way.
