If you have not seen the last episode of Supergirl season one, do not read any further as this article will contain spoilers.
The finale of Supergirl did not fail to deliver a powerful episode. Bringing the viewer to the brink of tears only to the send them flying into battle, this resulted in a fast-paced and dynamic finale. However it ended on a massive surprise for fans.
Supergirl and J'onn both head to the crash site of a new Kryptonian Pod. We do not see who is in the pod, but we do see Kara opening the pod and either recognizes the occupant given her words "Oh, my God." Or is surprised by what she finds within. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased to Entertainment Weekly the identity of the newest alien refugee to the show by saying.
"...an important character, and they’ll play an important role in season 2."
So who is inside the pod? Here are a few options.
One of Her Parents
Kara has found family on Earth, which was made pretty clear with her toast in the season finale. If either of her parent's were to arrive on Earth, it would definitely alter the dynamics within the show. If it were one of her parents it would be more likely to be her mother Alura, however set to play a massive role in the second season is the search and rescue of her adoptive father Jeremiah. With that in mind if her father returned it could shift Supergirl's priority as Jeremiah was only in her life for a short time.
In the comics there is indeed Superpets, if Kara's "Oh, my God." Is due to surprise of what she finds within the pod one of the Superpets could make sense. If they do opt for a Superpet, the most likely candidate is Streaky the Supercat as it is most aligned with Supergirl. The pod wouldn't be big enough for the horse, and Krypto the Superdog is linked more with Superman. So they can both be easily ruled out.
Seyg-El is the grandfather of both Supergirl and Superman. He is a member of the Kryptonian High Council, and would be someone Kara would easily recognize when she opens the pod. With his age and status in Kryptonian society, he would have a difficult time adjusting to life on Earth. This could indeed play out in an interesting way in the second season, and even result in him finding enemies in his grandchildren. As both respect Earth's customs having been raised on the planet.
We have the multiverse already established in Supergirl, thanks to the Flash crossover episode. It has also been suggested Power Girl could be showing up in the near future of Flash's TV show. So when Flash encounters her, does he perhaps try to send her home? Only to fail and for her to land in Supergirl's world instead? With the creators teasing the new character is set to have an impact in the second season, Power Girl is a strong contender for who could be in the pod. As she is also essentially an alternate realities version of Kara, her "Oh, my God." Could be her surprise to how the new character looks a lot like her.
These are just a few possibility on who could be within the pod, they could even choose to create an original character. This would not be unheard of within the show as it has already proven its ability in creating strong original characters. Both Alex and Winn are not from DC Comics, however both proved to be essential characters in helping Supergirl throughout her first season. But given the comments given by Andrew Kreisberg, it is implied it will be an already existing DC character.
Who do you think is in the pod? What did you think of the finale of the first season of Supergirl?
