From a kid of the late 90's Power Rangers is a great childhood memory, along with a lot of other things I still am quite fond of today. The toys, the games and the show still have a solid footing within my memories, so with the new reboot of the show to the big screen, you'd think I'd be excited? Well not anymore.
A new image has been released of the common antagonist for the Power Rangers, 'Rita Repulsa' by People.
Elizabeth Banks (seen above) who signed on to the play the iconic character, gave comment on her astonishing new look.
"It's definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,"
She also gave comment on the role,
"I've never played a villain before,", She also adds that she is looking forward to "world domination – and being unpredictable as a character."
Great as it is to see her enthusiasm for Rita, is this really as fans, what we wanted? As a fan of the original series, I always open to change but this is just a bit too drastic don't you think? I mean it's so intense that this doesn't feel like a reboot of her character, just another NEW Power Rangers villain. As on the contrary, Lionsgate have done an awesome job on creating what looks like a Power Rangers villain, just not the one they were trying to create.
This new costume is much more reptilian looking and resembles a lot of the Viper from The Wolverine (2013).
I'm not sure where they want to go with this reboot, but so far for me, it's not looking as good as I'd hoped, this should be a nostalgic journey for all us Die-hard fans, not take their names and strap them onto another character!
I just now have to wonder how much of the shows original roots are now going to change, will it be as extreme as this? Toned down?
What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
