Runescape, the classic-but-simplistic MMORPG, is bailing on their browser based Java platform and joining the big boys with their own client known as NXT. This means huge visual upgrades including expanded viewing over distances, dynamic shadows and better lighting effects. If the recent launch of the NXT client goes well, Jagex, the makers of Runescape, plan to phase out the old Java-based client.
I must say, the graphics (especially the water) are a vast improvement over the old graphics and gameplay. Sadly, even with this much-needed upgrade, Runescape is still visually near the bottom of the currently-available MMOs. Personally, I found this teaser for the NXT release to be slightly underwhelming after the gorgeous visuals in games like 'Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.'
