Within the space of a few days in 2014, the rumor mill was kicked into action and then left to rust as various is-she-isn't-she reports were flung around the net claiming Tina Fey was working on a remake of the 1993 classic, Hocus Pocus.

As you can imagine, fans of the family fantasy were less than impressed with the idea of yet another childhood classic being given a Hollywood makeover, although if anyone could do the witty trio — Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — justice, it'd be Mean Girls writer Tina Fey. However, 24 hours after the claims were made, a rep for Fey shut them down with this swift statement:

“Their report is not accurate — Tina is not developing a sequel to ‘Hocus Pocus.'”

And that was that.

Until a Q&A at Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday, that is. According to Variety's report:

Successfully sidestepping any details about her involvement in a possible 'Hocus Pocus' project, Fey said, “There’s a script in development, it is not so much a remake.”

Which would lead us to assume then that while she's not necessarily working on a remake, nor a sequel, a re-imagining could be underway — which is much more palatable for lovers of the original movie, no?

Personally, my hopes are on a Mean Girls x Hocus Pocus mash-up because a) how great would the Plastics look on broomsticks, b) Gretchen Weiner's secret-filled hair lends itself almost too well to Bette Midler's witch vibe, and c) Lindsay Lohan would probably do her own rendition of Sonique's "I Put A Spell On You," and let's be real — who on Earth wouldn't want that?

What would you want to see in a re-imagining of 'Hocus Pocus'?
