Robert Downey Jr. is currently on the press tour for the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War but he dropped a significant piece of news in an interview with Shortlist Magazine unrelated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"We’ll attempt to make one this year,” Downey Jr. tells Shortlist magazine. "When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. It really a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m excited about it."

Sherlock Holmes 3 has been up in the air since 2011's A Game Of Shadows but now it seems that the third film is at an advanced stage in the development process. "We can do some preliminary stuff,” Says Downey Jr. "If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have done in a week.”

Guy Ritchie, who directed the previous two installments in the Sherlock Holmes franchise is currently working on Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur with actor Charlie Hunnam. We heard last year from Jude Law, who plays Dr. Watson in the films that the third film will be "smarter and cleverer, but in the same realm”.

Personally I'm a big fan of the first Sherlock Holmes film, and whilst the second isn't necessarily bad, it was definitely a drop in quality. I'm eager to see a third film, especially one written by Iron Man 3's Drew Pearce. We should expect to hear some news on a Sherlock Holmes 3 towards the end of 2016.
