After a 10-episode first season, MTV has announced that it is renewing the fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles for a second season.
The series is an adaption of Terry Brooks's best-selling fantasy novels and stars Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton and Manu Bennett.
MTV's executive vice president and head of scripted development, Mina Lefevre, explained that the show's captivating themes and character storylines would make for an exciting second season. “[The Shannara] dream team delivered a beautiful, groundbreaking show with compelling stories and character journeys which brought in new viewers," she said, adding "I can’t wait to see what Season 2 brings."
Jenna Glazier, who produces the series, also shared her excitement: "We're thrilled to continue the momentum established in Season 1," she said. "Along with the ongoing support of MTV, the entire creative team is poised to raise the bar even higher in Season 2."
The first season of The Shannara Chronicles proved to be a success for the network, ranking as MTV's top-rated new series of the year, and performing strongly on digital platforms as well, amassing 16.6 millions streams across all of MTV's digital properties. The show was also the most digitally downloaded single season on MTV ever.
