Prolific singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota early this morning. His publicist Yvette Noel-Schure released the following statement to Variety:
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57.
“There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”
On April 15 Prince was rushed to hospital after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois.
The artist had been battling a serious case of the flu for several weeks. He was released from hospital several hours later and appeared at a dance party the next day in a bid to confirm his good health.
We will update as more news comes to hand.
We offer our deep condolences to Prince's friends, family and fans during this difficult time.
