Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson began his music career with his debut album For You on the Warner Brothers record label. It set the standard for his genius by being produced and written by him as well as every single instrument and vocal being performed by him. From that moment, he never stopped writing, producing and recording. With 39 studio albums, 4 live albums, a remix album, and 6 albums under the names of different bands he proved himself to have been a never ending source of creativity and brilliance. He also wrote songs that became hits for artists including; sinead oconnor, the bangles, cindi lauper, alicia keys, chaka khan, stevie nicks, and madonna. He’s had so many personal hits, such as Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, 1999, Raspberry Beret, and Let’s Go Crazy, that naming them all would take up this entire video.

He broke boundaries by mixing rock, soul, r and b, jazz, rap, electronic, blues, classical, and every other style imaginable, never forcing himself into any musical box. He also helped break the color barrier by impeccably creating charting music in styles that at the time were unheard of for an african american artist.

After the release of his first album in 1978, whether they know it or not, every single person has been influenced, inspired, and affected by this man. Whether it be as musicians, dancers, performers, actors, producers, fashion enthusiasts, or even just as people who strive to be ourselves and never apologize for who we are or wish to become.

Prince is a man who was clearly called to create and never stopped following that calling and has given all of us so much to remember him by. He will truly be missed and there’s no way to thank him enough, so let’s just imagine him ripping a guitar solo, doing the splits, and laughing in the purple rain. Rest in Peace Prince.
