You can't think of another way to describe Malayalam film industry in 2016, which has seen many experiments at film making and hit the mark. Movies like Premam, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Charlie, Bhaskar the Rascal and Ennum Eppozhum saw some of the best talents trying something different.


Perhaps the viewers' expectations are higher than ever, marred for choices as they have become with an easy access to entertainment. You don't need to watch boring reality shows and saas bahu serials this month, not when there are the treasure super hit Malayalam movies to watch on online Malayalam TV channels.

Premam is a musical comedy romantic movie edited, directed and written by Alphonse Putharen. The movie is a three-part portrait of the protagonist finding the love of his life. The movie stars Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Nivin Pauly in the lead role. The plot deals with the three stages in the protagonist George's life, and the three women he meets at each stage.

Ennu Ninte Moideen is based on the true love story of Kanchanamala and Moideen who met each other in the city of Calicut around 1960. Parvathy and Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the characters of Kanchanamala and Moideen. Upon release, the movie was well received by the critics. The movie was even called one of the best romantic stories in Malayalam film industry.

Charlie narrates the story of a nonconforming, young woman who is in desperate search for an artist who formerly inhabited her home. The movie stars Parvathy and Dulquer Salmaan. Upon release, it won 8 State Film Awards at the 46th Kerala State Film Award Ceremony. It is indeed a feel great movie but the story does not end here. The actors have played their roles brilliantly with pure emotions centered around the characters who are left to dance free.

Bhaskar the Rascal is a comedy film directed and written by Siddique. It stars Nayantara and Mammootthy in the lead role. Shivani, the daughter of an entrepreneur Hina and Adhi, the son of a rich widower Bhaskaran saw each other at a school function and falls in love. The story revolves struggle of the pair to keep their love alive against the wishes of their families.

Ennum Eppozhum narrates the story of a senior reporter Vineeth who tries to interview a family court lawyer Deepa for his magazine. However, the interview seems difficult due to Deepa's busy schedule. It stars Manju Warrier, Innocent, Mohanlal and Reena Mathews. The movie received positive reviews from the critics and was a commercial success.
