Yesterday, the world lost legendary musician and iconic artist Prince, who sadly died at the age of 57. Fans around the world expressed their sadness, offered their condolences, and shared their memories of the late artist through social media.

As one of Prince's multitude of famous fans, actor and rapper Will Smith was shocked by the artist's unexpected passing and mourned his death on his Facebook page. According to his statement, Smith had spoken to Prince just hours before his body was found at his Paisley Park estate.

He posted the following message along with a photo of the artist:

I am stunned and heartbroken. I just spoke with him last night. Today, Jada & I mourn with all of you the loss of a beautiful poet, a true inspiration, and one of the most magnificent artists to ever grace this earth.

Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith also took to social media to grieve the loss of Prince and share how the legendary musician impacted her life:

Prince was one of the first artists to put me on game in regard to the industry. He was not only a genius artist, he was kind, funny, beautifully eccentric, curious, imaginative, magical, spiritual, rebellious and extremely intelligent. He showed me early the power of living one's life by one's own rules and no one else's. There are really no words to express what we have all lost today. To quote my friend Paress, “Music has lost its heart beat.
Rest in peace Beauty…

Last September, Prince spoke to Entertainment Weekly and commended the Smith children, Willow and Jaden, for their artistry. He also lamented the fact he had not yet met them, but was hoping to in the future:

"I love what [Willow's] doing, her and her brother [Jaden]. I want to meet them. It almost happened, but it didn't work out. I want to see what she's making in five years."

I think that the Smith's touching tributes perfectly encompass how much the world will miss the incomparable and inimitable Purple One. Rest in peace, Prince.
