Just a little background to Doctor Strange for those of you who don't know who the Sorcerer Supreme is. I'm not going to go into depth about every little piece of background and story line history, just the basics. Doctor Strange also known as 'Stephen Strange' first appeared in STRANGE TALES #110 in JULY 1963 he was a leading Neurosurgeon who was a selfish ass much like Tony stark, the selfish ass part not the surgeon part.

He was in a tragic car crash that damaged his hands, the tools of a neurosurgeon, his hands were so badly damaged he was forced to never be a surgeon again.

Stephen Strange was now desperately looking for anything to fix his beloved nerve damaged hands. He eventually heard of someone who could help...the Ancient One! Strange then decided to travel to India in search of this 'Ancient One' who could heal and perform mysterious feats using magic.

The Ancient One did not heal Stephen Strange's damaged hands but instead agreed to train him in the ways of magic so that he could change his selfish ways and prove himself worthy. At the time the Ancient one was the current Sorcerer Supreme but he decided to train Stephen to become the new Sorcerer Supreme. Stephen Strange trained in the arts of black magic for years to become the Sorcerer Supreme and Doctor strange, he succeeded in his training and became Doctor Strange master of Black magic. He would later be forced to fight Baron Mordo, another student of the Ancient One, one of Strange's many enemies.

That is the basic background info you need to know for Doctor Strange. Now onto why he is a total badass and why the new movie will be a huge turning point for the MCU(marvel cinematic universe)

1. His powers

Dr. Strange uses mystical energy invoked upon by spells/incantations or by the power of divine beings to manipulate forces of the universe including projection of mystic energy as bolts, slashes, binds, shields, or a scattered array of energy appearing like electricity, manipulating matter and various energies, he can also project himself in another astral state. Along with that he also wields the Eye of AGAMOTTO a mystic amulet.

The eye of agamotto is one of the three eyes of 'Agamotto' Agamotto was a former Sorcerer Supreme. It was placed into the care of Eternity until a worthy mage could successfully reach him. Doctor Strange did so, and was given the Eye to battle Dormammu. The eye is only used for order or "White" magic only, in other words it does not respond to evil commands. The eye first appeared in Strange Tales #128 in January 1965. The eye can emit an 'all-revealing light' basically it can show Dr. Strange other peoples powers and etc. It can play back recent events, it has other abilities similar to telepathy but are magical rather than psionic, greatest of which is to give Strange certain mystical perceptions into another being's soul. The eye is also usable during his normal and astral state.

2. He has fought Adam Warlock

In his own series 'DOCTOR STRANGE SORCERER SUPREME #36' he was forced to fight Adam Warlock,

Adam Warlock now wears the Infinity Gauntlet and its power is almost too much for him. Doctor Strange gets to use each of his old standby artifacts to counteract the Gauntlet's effects.

Adam Warlock has gained the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, making him technically, God. He swiftly goes mad with power. Can Doctor Strange stand up to an entity that can do anything?

3. Dr. Strange has teamed up with spider-man

a clash with Mordo led Strange to meet Spider-Man, who helped Strange rescue several people from a mystic dimension and convinced him to remove their memory of the experience, even though this caused them to forget Spider-Man's heroism as well. Impressed by Spider-Man's bravery and altruism, Strange came to regard him as a friend, and the two unlikely allies have teamed up many times over the years. The two unlikely allies also teamed up in 'Marvel team up #50, The Mystery of the Wraith'

4. Strange has fought Thor and Loki at the same time

IN STRANGE TALES #182 in November 1975 Doctor Strange was tricked by Loki's mind control powers to fight the almighty other worldly Thor, Strange was able to throw off the mind trick and teame up with Thor to fight off Loki.

5. Doctor strange was apart of the Marvel Illuminati

More recently in the new avengers series in 2005 the Sorcerer Supreme was apart of a secret team comprised of:

Himself; Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans; Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men and mutant rights activist; Reed Richards, founding member of the Fantastic Four; Namor the Sub-Mariner, King of Atlantis; and Iron Man (Anthony Stark), founding member of the Avengers. These six men worked together for an unspecified amount of time to mold and shape the status of the superhuman world and the world around it. The team worked in secrecy to defend the Earth from those who wanted to destroy it. They would decide secretly how all of the individual( avengers, defenders, etc.) groups would correspond, with T'challa choosing not to join the group. The team had brief but fun run until they went their separate ways.

So there you have it five reasons why Doctor strange is a total badass, he is a master of black magic, a former member of the illuminati, he has teamed up with spider-man, he has defeated Adam Warlock, Doctor strange has fought Thor and Loki, and has briefly teamed up with Thor to defeat Loki. For all those reasons and more i think Doctor Strange will change the MCU forever and he will always be one of the greatest Sorcerer Supremes and my personal favorite super hero and I hope you have learned something new about the great Neurosurgeon, I hope you enjoyed reading my first published article thingy...
